The name de Chalfont, is Norman in origin and means a place of warm
water. Although there is
evidence of individuals named de Chalfont in Buckinghamshire as early as
the 12th century, there is, as
yet, no definitive proof of a family connection to our line. There is
also no indication that any person
named de Chalfont arrived in England from Normandy with William the
Conqueror. So, it is much more
likely the family took their surname from a place in Buckinghamshire,
England named by the Normans.
