In The Beginning - How the Historical Society Came To Be

The Trimble County Historical Society had its beginning early in 1977 when Clara Scott, Lola Stark and Donna Stark Wehby (now Thompson) met in the upper room at Cardinal Hills Gold Course to discuss the possibility of beginning a group to be called "Trimble County Historical Society". The object of this group was to be the preservation of Trimble County records.

The first meeting of the Society was at the Trimble County Public Library in May, 1977, when Mr. Lewis Wood, Field Director of the Kentucky Historical Society met with a group of Trimble citizens. Miss Clara Scott became acting chairman, and was then elected President by the organization.

Miss Irene Long filed an application for a charter and the Commonwealth of Kentucky issued a Certificate of Incorporation on August 21, 1978. Since that time, the society has published a book of cemetery records from the works of the members of the society who went to old cemeteries and cut vines, dug stones and listed the information found on the stones. This project is ongoing.

The Trimble County Historical Society has, since its inception, published several books, now available for sale. Researchers in Trimble County will find them invaluable as they search for family records. A list of books available for purchase are shown below. Please add $1.50 to the cost of each book for postage. Thank you.

The president of the Trimble County Historical Society is Donna Marjorie Stark. She can be contacted via email at DonnaStarkKY@fewpb.net or via regular mail at 12 Breckinridge Blvd, Frankfort, KY. 40601

Kentucky Historical Society Tree has a new leaf for the Trimble County Historical Society. The society is also proud to announce three new additions to the Genealogy Room at the Trimble County Library. The additions include the Kentucky Death Vital Records Index 1911-1995; Kentucky Vital Birth Records Index ( Index is by child's and mother's name); and the 1850 Census Index of Kentucky.

The Trimble County Historical Society welcomes you to attend the next meeting which will be held the 3rd Saturday of the month, at 1:30 in the afternoon. Please feel free to bring your family histories to have added to the library's collection of family histories. You may also join the society at this time for $5.00 per year.
